7 Simple Truths about Desktop & Mobile Video Conferencing

Desktop and mobile video conferencing provide fantastic solutions for businesses to collaborate remotely. Some vendors make elaborate claims, but their apps my not actually deliver. With so many apps available, it can be difficult to choose the one that is right for you. It is important to know the facts about services and features in order to make a good decision. Consider the following:

  1. Just because an app is free to download does not mean it is free to use. Some vendors offer free app downloads, but require everyone who uses the app to go through a rigorous setup and licensing process. Licensing typically involves paying a fee, which makes the app not-so-free after all.
  2. Some services make joining a call too difficult. Many apps, along with their complicated initiation process, also have issues in dealing with firewalls. If clients or business partners have to go through such a hassle to join your conference call, they aren't very likely to show up. Scopia is one desktop and mobile video conferencing app that makes joining a call simple.
  3. Many video conferencing apps are difficult, if not impossible, to connect to other apps. Standards-based apps allow you to connect to other standards-based apps, while apps that are not standards-based limit or complicate connectivity.
  4. Not all apps allow for full collaboration. Features, such as data-sharing, should be included in the video conferencing app you use to allow for the full scope of communication. You should also be sure that these features are available on any devices you use.
  5. Newer technologies can significantly improve the call experience. Some apps are not making good use of technology to maximize call experience over the internet. Scopia uses NetSense, which manages bandwidth to maintain call quality.
  6. All apps are not cloud-based, even though the names of some of them suggest they are. Cloud-based services allow access to sophisticated technology that may not be affordable otherwise.
  7. Mobile video apps that are easy to use are not that easy to come by. Ask potential providers for a free demo on any devices you plan to use before making any commitments.

Now that you know what to look for, you can find an affordable desktop and mobile video conferencing solution with all of the features you need for your business to run smoothly.
